We all faced this decision once when we left Poland and settled in Seattle. For many, leaving home is a dramatic and seemingly impossible choice. We did it, so we know firsthand how hard it is. Yet, because we’ve done it once, and sometimes many times, it’s not frightening anymore. After a while in one place, we start thinking that maybe it’s time to move again.
I’ve been struggling for years with this itch to change things, stir it up, and start anew. However, every time I return to Seattle from a trip, I can’t believe how lucky I am to live in one of the best places in America, if not the world. Where else can you have the ocean, mountains, lakes, and waterfalls all in the same place? Where else can you drive to work and see a 15,000-foot volcano? Where else can you find ski resorts just an hour away? People who complain about the rain probably never lived on the East Coast, where both winters and summers are unbearable.
So, for now, I am staying.
