8/27 – 9/2  Goodbye, Till Tomorrow / Do widzenia, do jutra (1960) by Janusz Morgenstern, 80 min

This is story of summer love between a Polish student, Jacek (legendary actor Zbigniew Cybulski), and the daughter of a French diplomat, Margueritte (Teresa Tuszyńska). Jacek introduces Margueritte to his world in Poland for a fleeting moment. Despite the sentimental charm of early 60s music, swishing dresses and the naïve discussions shared between the two young lovers, the film is an apt portrayal of a generation of young people in 1960s Gdańsk – people hungry for freedom, social change and a western lifestyle.

9/3   – 9/9   Papusza (2013) by Joanna Kos-Krauze and Krzysztof Krauze, biopic of the Roma poet

Discover the story of Papusza (played by the outstanding Jowita Budnik) – the first published Roma-Polish poetess who confronts the image of traditional femininity and expectations within her community and pays dearly for it. Also discover the world of Polish Roma and their traditional way of life during the first part of the 20th century.

This internationally acclaimed film, featured at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival and Thessaloniki International Film Festival, was written and directed by a renowned duo of Polish filmmakers: Joanna Kos-Krauze and the late Krzysztof Krauze. It was shot in exquisite monochrome by cinematographers Krzysztof Ptak and Wojciech Staroń.

9/10 – 9/16  Strawberry Wine / Wino truskawkowe (2007) by Dariusz Jabłoński, drama

Located in a village on a Polish-Slovakian border and based on Andrzej Stasiuk’s acclaimed collection of short stories, Tales of Galicia, and lovingly directed with attention to its literary source by Dariusz Jabłoński, Strawberry Wine is a story about love and belonging that will draw you into a world of provincial communities hailing from different cultures and nations living amongst each other, where life seems slow and ordinary, but where beauty permeates every moment.

8/27 – 9/9   Double Trouble / Tarapaty (2017) by Marta Karwowska, family adventure

All generations of viewers will certainly enjoy Dir. Marta Karwowska’s Double Trouble (2017), a whimsical story about two 12 year-olds on a hunt for hidden treasure. The film explores both childhood’s exciting journeys and the loneliness caused by the absence of parents. As the kids eventually learn, friendship is best cemented when the going gets tough.
