Polish Book Club: “Przewóz”

Polish Book Club: “Przewóz”

The Club invites new members to discuss books in Polish.

The book for the meeting is Przewóz by Andrzej Stasiuk, published in 2021 by Wyd. Czarne. The book is set in 1941 in the Polish countryside at the Podlasie border between the Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union on the eve of Hitler’s invasion of the Soviet Union. This is Stasiuk’s first book after twelve years and is universally praised by critics for its outstanding and vivid depiction of the war from the rare perspective of the Polish backwater country.

Stasiuk, 62, is a well-known writer, poet and literary critic. He is best known for his Opowieści Galicyjskie / Tales of Galicia, which won the 2015 Nike award.
