WWII Documentary “Cross Over Swastika”

Kino OKO invites viewers to a screening of the 2020 Polish WWII documentary movie “Cross Over Swastika. Operation Intelligentsia / Krzyż ponad swastyką” (78′) at the Polish Cultural Center. Due to the topic and scenes depicting WWII Nazi concentration camps, viewer discretion is advised. In Polish with English subtitles, free admission.

This fictionalized documentary directed by Hanna Etemadi presents the gruesome story of priests during the WWII German occupation of Poland. The movie is based on the historical research as well as personal memories of witnesses and clergy. The Nazi “Operation intelligentsia” (German: “Intelligenzaktion”) was a manifestation of genocide that was aimed at the Polish intelligentsia in general, including clergy. In her film, the director focuses on presenting the stories of clergy who were subjected to persecution by the Third Reich. Priests Leon Stępniak and Adam Kozłowiecki share their experiences from the Dachau concentration camp and recall the profiles of five priests who suffered martyrdom in the camp.

The film is presented by Krzysztof Poraj-Kuczewski.
